Texas – Stock Epinephrine Law

Congratulations! On May 28, 2015, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed HB566/SB66 into law, which authorizes public and charter schools to stock emergency supplies of epinephrine auto-injectors on every school campus within each school district and at off-campus school sanctioned events.

However, our job is not done yet. Each law or regulation must be implemented or put into action by a board or an agency.

Dr. Lieberman was interviewed for the ACE Spotlight article titled, “Dad’s Night Out” published in the Summer 2015 edition of Allergy & Asthma Today magazine.

Ms. Brandle
 wrote and distributed a letter to parents of students in a class with a student who has severe peanut allergies. The letter created awareness and provided parents with appropriate food suggestions to bring to the class, as well as products to avoid.

Dr. Gonzalez-Reyes and Celeste Loera, MSN, FNP-BC were interviewed about their Alamo ACE Challenge event for the Spring 2013 article, “ACE Team Spotlight: Food For Thought!” published in Allergy & Asthma Today magazine.

On April 17, 2015, Dr. Lieberman’s Op/Ed article titled, “Allergist: Texas should expand epinephrine rules to improve safety net” was published in the Austin Statesman.

Dr. Herman completed an ACE presentation, “Anaphylaxis Awareness and Treatment in School Setting” for 60 school nurses, teachers, and administrative staff.

In May 2014, Allen Lieberman, MD was interviewed on KVUE about food allergy awareness.

Dr. Sugerman’s practice wrote and posted an article titled, “Choose a Fun Safe Halloween For Your Children with Food Allergies” on their blog page. 

In 2014, Sam Teel, RN, of Denton, TX implemented a “Friends Forever” program in his school.  With parental permission, the student with life-threatening allergies chooses a friend to be their advocate. The advocate is trained on how to protect their friend, what signs and symptoms to watch for and how to report those symptoms to an adult.
