Illinois – Stock Epinephrine Law
Congratulations! Illinois has a law allowing schools to stock and utilize epinephrine auto-injectors in the case of life-threatening allergic reactions. House Bill 3294, the School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act, was signed by Governor on August 15, 2011.
In August 2012, Lisa Madigan, the Illinois Attorney General, and LaMar Hasbrouck, MD, MPH, Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health released the Emergency Epinephrine Act PA 97-0361 Physician Toolkit to support schools in securing standing orders and prescriptions for the undesignated epinephrine auto-injectors from a physician.
In July 2014, the Governor signed HB 5892 into law which expanded the School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act.
However, our job is not done yet. Each law or regulation must be implemented or put into action by a board or an agency.
Allergy & Asthma Network supports stock epinephrine implementation in schools and provides education and resources to support a seamless rollout. For more information, visit:
